DO YOU QUALIFY FOR DISABILITY BENEFITS?
Under Social Security rules, “disability” is based on your inability to work. In general, the Social Security Administration will consider you to be disabled if:
- You cannot do work that you did before;
- You cannot adjust to other work because of your disability; and
- Your disability has lasted or is expected to last for at least one year or to result in death.
To learn about your rights and legal options, call Cannon Disability Law at (801) 322-2121 or toll-free at (800) 732-2323 and speak to one of our disability attorneys today.
Qualifying disabilities can be both physical and mental. Additionally, the rules are different for people who are over 50 years of age.

Applicants Over 50
Because it can be difficult for older workers to change careers, the Social Security Administration has relaxed requirements for people over 50 years of age who are seeking disability benefits. For example, if you are over 50 and are unable to work in your previous profession or similar profession using your unique talents and skills, the Social Security Administration may choose to accept your application for Social Security disability benefits even if you may be capable of working in another field outside of your area of experience or expertise.
